Lateen-rigged Definition

This term describes ships or vessels that use lateen sails, which are triangular sails that allow for greater maneuverability and better use of winds from various directions, especially when tacking or reaching at an angle to the wind. Lateen-rigged vessels were particularly common in the Mediterranean and throughout the Age of Exploration.
