isochromosomes Definition

In genetics, isochromosomes are chromosomes with arms of equal length. They are formed when both arms of one of the homologous chromosomes are altered and become the same length, resulting in a chromosome that appears to have a single, rather than two, arms. Isochromosomes can often arise due to errors in cell division such as nondisjunction.
