A nocturn is a musical composition intended to be performed during the evening or at night. The term is also used for a type of religious devotional hymn or psalm originally introduced into the Christian, and later the Roman Catholic, liturgy for evening prayer. In modern usage, the term is sometimes used to refer to any piece of music evoking a nocturnal atmosphere.
